Tanaka Laboratory is trying to make a new type of device by using such fluctuations and differences well. For example, organisms are making calculations using fluctuations and noise well. Human brain is doing with 30 W just like the supercomputer. When such a super energy-saving computer is realized, the current electricity problem will blow away quickly.
Toward these goals, Tanaka Laboratory aims to produce devices that reproduce biological signals by focusing on nano-device non-equilibrium and fluctuation based on nanomaterial science. I expect that they will be used for brain-type computing in the future. It is roughly divided into (1) artificial retina using photoresponsive atomic switch that performs synaptic behavior, (2) brain type behavior study using nanocarbon network elements, (3) monomolecular measurement aiming at emergence of molecular architectonics function.
